Whistler on the Roof got its name from Daniel’s light-hearted whistling people could hear from the ground while he was working on the rooftops in the village of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.

This is a small operation that has been serving west county with fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. The work-site is always kept tidy with great care for safety. We enjoy the sense of gratification we get from working with stone and copper to secure homes and give them a beautiful, sound roof that will last a lifetime. Slate has a reputation for being the most expensive roofing material to use, and some people are under the impression that only wealthy people can afford a slate roof.

When you stop to consider that slate lasts a lifetime, comes from the earth and can return to the earth with no harm done, slate is truly the most economical, environmentally sound, and most beautiful choice. Slate can be bought directly from local quarries or it can be found and re-claimed for your home, usually at half the cost of new. Slate comes in many beautiful colors and can be cut to form designs to add beauty.
